FOSSILS: Fossils are generally the hardest and most desirable of excavated materials that can be found underground. It requires tenacious effort and repeated failures or a stroke of luck to chance enough calcified organic material to sufficiently replicate the genome of a prehistoric species. As such only deep faults and excavation sites are likely places to search for these items en mass, otherwise it requires specific events to access these.
MEGA STONES: Another precious ore mined from the earth's depths, these geodes can be refined and polished to serve as a catalyst for Mega Evolution. These are infinitely more likely to come across while excavating, as even basic trainers armed with spades will happen to find one almost commonly during underground expeditions.
MISCELLANEOUS: Other items can be found underground such as rare and mystifying Held Items and other precious materials such as Evolution Stones and in some cases exotic subspecies variants of pre-existing Pokemon (see Custom Pokemon).
